The Wheat from the Chaff #22
In the past few weeks, we have had extensive discussions about assistants (also known as copilots). As part of my job, every week I read a lot of content about data, technology, and artificial intelligence (also known as AI). I filter them and send you the best ones, every Sunday.
Hello everyone 👋 ,
In the past few weeks, we have had extensive discussions about assistants (also known as copilots). Continuing with our series of challenges, we attempted to create Joiozinho, our assistant who specialized in everything related to our publication. We also tested Bard, Google's solution that competes with ChatGPT and was recently launched in Brazil. We showcased the results of these tests. Are you up for it?
It's time to separate THE WHEAT FROM THE CHAFF…
Less is More
We have been discussing the topic of copilots in recent weeks, and as we discussed in edition 8, we believe that the best combination will be artificial intelligence (AI) with its abilities serving and making room for humans to perform tasks that, for now, machines are not capable of doing.
You, my reader, have probably noticed our great concern in making everything we discuss accessible and possible to reproduce through examples and applications so that you can understand how all of this is already very close and can indeed be incorporated into your daily life. The theme of our chapter today is: everyone will be able to (and will have) a copilot to call their own!
The illustration of our edition today, created by the generative AI-based tool called Midjourney, refers to the "vira-lata caramelo" (Loose translation: caramel mixed-breed dog), a symbol of loyalty and beloved by Brazilian families.
We are in our 22nd edition, and it feels like we started yesterday. As a result, searching for topics or references in previous editions has become a challenge. That's why we decided to create an assistant (co-pilot) to help us. Let's call him Joiozinho. He will be our readers' right-hand, facilitating access to all information related to "The Wheat from the Chaff".
We will approach this in two different ways to stimulate our creativity. Firstly, we will use the ChatGPT itself. OpenAI, the company responsible for creating ChatGPT, is evolving into an infrastructure company. This has allowed people, typically developers, to create systems - or plugins - that can be integrated into the system.
Subscribing to ChatGPT Plus, which costs $20 per month, is required. By clicking on the GPT-4 icon, the 'Plugins' option will appear. Then, the Plugin Store will open, where you can view all available options and select the ones that interest you. The step-by-step is presented below.
All you have to do is select the plugins you want
I selected three options: BrowserOp, Link Reader, and Scraper. These are related to reading content and data from a website. With all three plugins activated, I asked them to read the our website and started asking questions. The result was positive and straight to the point. The following images illustrate the step-by-step process performed.
It can be seen that the plugins and ChatGPT together work well as an assistant in our scenario. They help understand content faster and find specific topics.
The second option involves the use of open-source solutions, which naturally require more technical knowledge. In this case, we used some of these solutions to create our own tool, which we affectionately named 'Joiozinho'.
Using all the technology and tools involving generative AI, we trained Joiozinho to learn everything about "The Wheat from the Chaff". Although its performance may be inferior to the first option, especially as it is a proof of concept, it demonstrates great potential (figure below).
The era of AI is just beginning! :)

Guest of the Week: Bard
This week, our guest is Bard, Google's AI tool that competes with ChatGPT. Recently launched in Brazil, the solution had already been released in February of this year. One major advantage of Bard is its use of data and information from Google itself, especially now that the integration with Bing, Microsoft's search tool, has been disabled in ChatGPT.
To use Bard, simply access:
And ask questions as you would in ChatGPT (using the prompt). In the example below, we see how useful (should be) it is for the tool to access information from Google itself:
In other tools, we would need to gather the information first and then perform an analysis. Here, I want to highlight the word "should" (or "might be") because the information provided by Bard does not match reality. When consulting some investment websites, including Google Finance, the numbers for the given period are significantly different.
We would love your help sharing this website!
If you know someone that might like our posts, don’t be shy and share it with them! By the way, we appreciate this!
See you Sunday…
